Pharmacy Technician



Under the direction of a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician will measure, mix, count out, label, and prepare medications. They also often interact with patients and answer their questions.

Career Details


Students in Pharmacy Technician are trained in the following subject areas:

  • Preparing medications under the direction of a pharmacist.
  • Measuring, mixing, counting, labeling, and recording amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders.
  • Establishing or maintaining patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.
  • Receiving written prescriptions or refill requests and verifying that information is complete and accurate.
  • Maintaining proper storage and security conditions for drugs.

Most Pharmacy Technician Job Corps graduates go to work for pharmacies, including those found in grocery and drug stores, and in hospitals.


Before entering the program, students must:

  • Have a clean criminal record and background check, meaning you can’t have been convicted of a drug or pharmacy-related felony within the last 5 years.
  • Complete all required activity in the Career Preparation Period, including Career Exploration and Career Success/Workplace Skills.
  • Have strong math and reading skills.
